A diy jet drive would be like a steam powered outboard. you could probably do it, and it would make an interesting conversation piece, but you shouldn't expect anything that performs within an order of magnitude of a professionally designed and manufactured drive.. The goal of this project is to design and build an r/c model jet sprint style boat to play around the pond at work. although the pond is probably too small, it is a good visual motivation as i walk past it to get to work every day..
